Malcolm Durfee

Media Strategist & Copywriter

Whether I am studying the architecture of my hometown in Carlsbad or spending two hours wandering the Shelton McMurphey House in Eugene, I am drawn to the stories hidden in details. That perspective defines my work as a strategist and copywriter. I approach communication the way I approach history: by looking for context, intention, and the design choices that reveal meaning.

Barron Creek Farm

In late 2025, I joined Barron Creek Farm, a nonprofit dedicated to addressing nutrition insecurity through sustainable agriculture. The work connected naturally to the way I approach communication, which begins with close attention to the details that shape a larger narrative. I managed their media channels and maintained their website, focusing on how each post, image, and update could reflect the farm’s mission with clarity, intention, and a sense of purpose.

A mock campaign for Columbia Outdoor Wear was created for my capstone course. Our team’s work was selected as the strongest campaign in the class.

I worked in Accra, Ghana through the Media in Ghana Program, an experience that deepened my understanding of how place, culture, and daily routines shape the stories a newsroom chooses to tell.

I contributed multiple articles to the Daily Guide Newspaper in Accra, which required me to adapt my writing to a different audience and editorial style. The work strengthened my ability to communicate with clarity across cultures.
